Korean Vocabulary: 허리 배기다


It is not enough to learn Korean grammar and sentence patterns. Without enough vocabulary, we cannot form sentences. It is also important to learn phrases and collocations instead of just words as Korean is rich in vocabulary influenced by culture and entirely different from that of our native language. It can help us sound more natural and sensible when speaking Korean. Here are five of them with sample sentences in Korean and English.

얼굴 팅팅 붓다
to be swollen (face)

근데 나 내일 ‎여권 사진 찍어야 되는데 라면을 먹어서 어떡해 ‎얼굴 팅팅 붓겠네.
I am getting a passport photo taken tomorrow. Why did I eat noodles? My face will be swollen.

허리 배기다
To hurt the back (hips)

아, 나 허리 배기는데.
My back will hurt!

별걱정을 하다
to worry needlessly

‎에이, 별걱정을 다 합니다.
You don’t really have to worry.

다리 뻗다
to spread or stretch the legs

따뜻하고 좋네 다리도 뻗을 수 있고
It's nice and warm. I can stretch my legs, too.

살림 차리다
to settle down in a place

아니, 여기서 살림 차릴 생각이오? ‎눌러살게?
Are you thinking about settling down here? Do you want to live here?
