Learn Korean: Verb + 뭐야?

뭐야 is a fusion of the question word (what) and the casual form of 이다 (be-verb). Politely, we can say 뭐예요. When we place a verb in its form before it, what we have is the English pattern what is it that S + V. S stands for subject and V stands for verb. For example, we say what is that you want?, but we also translate it into what do you want?

원하는 뭐야?
What do you want from me?
What is it that you want?

하고 싶은 뭐야?
What is it that you want to do?
What do you want to do?

네가 있는 뭐야?
What can you do?

제일 잘하는 뭐야?
What are you very good at?

해보고 싶은 뭐야?
What is it that you want to try?
